The following is a statement from Middleborough Police Chief Joseph Perkins:
“Hello,
We hope you are doing well today. We want you to know that the Police Department is here fully staffed and waiting, just like you. Because of the coronavirus and the statewide efforts around social distancing, the following adjustments will be made to departmental services beginning today:
-
All Citizens Police Academy classes will be cancelled until further notice.
-
All walk-in firearms licensing will be cancelled. Please submit any new applications or renewal applications in the box in the foyer of the police station or mail them to 350 Wood St. We are continuing to process the applications. We will conduct fingerprinting and in-person interviews by appointment in the following weeks. Applicants will be contacted individually for their appointment.
-
Walk-in, routine business visits or questions regarding police matters should be conducted by phone.
-
Additional personnel are staffed in the communications center. We are your 911 answering point. If you have a question or need to make a routine report, call 508-947-1212. If you have an emergency call 911.
-
Information related to any developing events in Middleborough or public service announcements will be made via social media (Facebook & Twitter).
The Town of Middleborough and the Police Department have been meeting regularly and are continuing to evaluate the current situation and any changes necessary. The Police Department is taking these precautionary steps to limit the possible exposure to our officers. While we feel that these measures are necessary to promote social distancing and prevent the spread of COVID-19, we want to reassure the residents of Middleborough that we are here for them and ready to respond to all calls.”
