Chief Joseph Perkins is pleased to announce that the Town of Middleborough has been chosen by Plymouth County as a recipient of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funded by the Federal Department of Justice/Bureau of Justice Assistance.
Middleborough is one of four communities in the County to receive this award
along with the City of Brockton, the Town of Plymouth and the Town of Wareham.
JAG funds awarded to a town may be used to provide additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice, including any one or more of the following:
- Law enforcement programs
- Prosecution and court programs
- Prevention and education programs
- Corrections and community corrections programs
- Drug treatment and enforcement programs
- Planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs
- Crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation)
- Mental health programs and related law enforcement and corrections programs, including behavioral programs and crisis intervention teams
The Middleborough Police Department has been awarded this grant during the past two fiscal cycles as well.
Most recently, in Fiscal Year 2022 the department was awarded $10,167 in JAG funds to purchase new cruiser radios and officer portable radios to upgrade the department’s current equipment and allow the department to convert from analog to digital.
In Fiscal Year 2021, Middleborough Police received $9,583 in funds as part of the JAG. These funds were used to purchase new electronic weapons (commonly known as Tasers) and Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) to supplement the department’s current inventory and replace aging equipment.
