Chief Joseph Perkins reports that the Middleborough Police Department charged a Wareham man with illegally possessing a firearm after he was placed into protective custody.
ANDREW LABBE, AGE 20, of WAREHAM was charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm With a Defaced Serial Number
- Felony Possession of a Firearm Without a FID Card
- Felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, Middleborough Police responded to a home on Southwick Street for a report of a male party who was intoxicated and refusing to leave the premises.
Upon arrival, officers located the male party, later identified as LABBE, standing on the lawn showing signs of intoxication.
The officers offered to give LABBE a ride home, to which he stated he would order an Uber. As officers were walking LABBE over to their cruiser, they quickly determined that due to his level of intoxication he could not care for himself.
Out of an abundance of caution, for his safety and the safety of others, officers placed LABBE into protective custody.
LABBE was brought to the station for booking, per department policy. During the booking process, officers found an unloaded .40 caliber Glock 23 handgun with its serial number defaced inside his fanny pack. Officers also found a magazine capable of holding 13 rounds.
A preliminary investigation determined that LABBE was unlawfully carrying the firearm. LABBE was placed under arrest and the firearm was seized and placed into evidence.
LABBE later posted bail at the station and was released pending arraignment.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
